Len Moore
1955-2008
Len Moore spent his entire professional career working in the food service industry. He lived the classic tale of working from a busboy to a dishwasher to a server to a grill cook before becoming that company′s youngest ever general manager at 18. In 1979, Moore started his first sub sandwich and Philly cheesesteaks concept on the boardwalk in Wildwood, New Jersey. He held key management positions with TGI Fridays, Olive Garden, and Ruby Tuesday′s restaurants. He also worked as Director of Operations for several independent restaurant companies and was one of the very first Chick-fil-A franchise owners. After many years in the restaurant business, Moore and his wife, Shelia, decided to open their own sandwich shop in Bartlett, Tennessee in September of 1998, naming it Lenny′s Sub Shop.
In 2004, Moore sold majority ownership of Lenny′s to former Gate Gourmet executive George Alvord and a group of private investors. Moore had plans of retiring to Florida with his family, but barely eight weeks after the sale, he decided to rejoin Lenny′s as a franchisee. In 2005, Moore moved to Houston, Texas and opened his first Lenny′s franchise in The Woodlands. For years he served on the Lenny′s Sub Shop Franchise Advisory Council. In 2006 he was chosen as the International Franchise Association′s Franchisee of the year, one of the highest honors in the franchise industry.
Moore enjoyed working in the restaurants because he never wanted to lose track of his business. "The thought of failure never even went through our minds," Moore once said. "I′m really doing something I love. Work is pleasure and pleasure is work."
