Memphis Business Journal - Former Lenny's executive to open Florida shopsJuly 26, 2005
Lenny's Franchisor LLC is once again tapping its own talent to help the rapidly growing franchise expand even further in the Southeast market.
The Memphis-based chain has signed an agreement with its former director of real estate to open multiple stores in six Florida counties. Glenn Schaible will open the first Lenny's Sub Shop in Niceville, Fla., this fall.
From there, he plans on expanding the chain with additional Lenny's locations in Bay, Holmes, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton and Washington counties.
Schiable started out with the company as a franchisee in 2003. He is leaving his full-time corporate position to broaden his franchise ownership in a state that is seeing excessive growth and burgeoning business opportunities.
"Florida is a great place to live and a perfect place to take Lenny's," he said in a statement.
Last month, the company announced that its founder, Len Moore, was launching an initiative to open 80 restaurants in three Texas counties with his long-time friend Tom Clatterbuck of Houston-based Restaurant Consultants. That deal is expected to generate $600 million for the Lenny's Sub Shops system and represents a significant expansion for the chain in the Southwest.
Moore and his wife Sheila opened the first Lenny's Sub Shop in Bartlett in 1998. The company has spread like wildfire since making the move to franchising in 2001. Lenny's currently has 63 franchise restaurants, with more than 300 franchises in nine states on the way. Among those are 123 in South Florida, which were part of a deal announced by the company in May.
Lenny's Franchisor LLC is on track to open between 400 and 500 new restaurants by 2008.
