With new location Lenny’s launches low calorie menuMay 07, 2013
Lenny’s Sub Shops has launched a new “Under 500 calories” menu that coincides with the planned opening of a new location on Pauline later this month.
The new menu features 12 kaiser sandwiches that are currently on the restaurant’s menu, but Brent Alvord, president of Lenny’s said the company wanted to inform customers of the healthy alternatives on Lenny’s menu. The sandwiches start at $3.95.
“A lot of people don’t realize a sub shop can be very healthy depending on which sandwich you get and what you get on it,” Alvord said. “You can eat healthy, or you can load it up with extra bacon, extra cheese, extra oil and extra calories.”
Alvord said in the next year, any restaurant chain with more than 20 locations will be required to have calorie counts on their menus. Lenny’s will also include nutrition and allergy information on Lenny’s.com.
Lenny’s currently has 150 locations nationwide with 30 in the Memphis area.
“We’re trying to get ahead of that and set the tone that Lenny’s can be a healthy option for people,” he said.
The new location at 80 N. Pauline will open before the end of the month and will replace Medical Center Deli. It will be operated by Parth Thakor, a new Lenny’s franchisee.
Don Bomar, a current Memphis area Lenny’s Sub Shop franchisee, said the growing health consciousness of fast food customers is helping drive customers to Lenny’s. Bomar owns five Lenny’s stores in northeast Shelby County, including locations on Poplar, and in Lakeland, Wolfchase, Bartlett and Raleigh.
“We’ve picked up a different customer and we’re beginning to enjoy the loyalty with the Under 500 menu,” Bomar said. “Some of our guys who have been getting the regular subs forever have been trying the lighter offering.”
