New sandwich shop open in Midtown Crossing

November 06, 2012

Blue looks forward with new menu Blue Sushi Sake Grill is introducing some new dishes and drinks.

Three new sashimi items include the Mango Hama, which is yellowtail, mango, cilantro, crispy potato, citrus, sea salt, cherry tomato and chili oil; the Ringo Maguro, which is tuna tataki, blue cheese, wakame, micro greens and green apple; and the Truffle Salmon, which is seared salmon, truffle ponzu, strawberry, micro greens and black tobiko. The sashimi range from $10 to $12.50 for five pieces. A new veggie maki called Ichi Zen is a seaweed salad with cherry tomato and lemon.

Blue also added the Eden Roll, the V.L.T. roll, the Spicy Tako roll, the Veggie Roll and the Ichi Zen roll to the happy hour menu.

There's also a new signature drink, the Sake Sangria, on the happy hour menu. The bar has updated its drink list, taking off a few outdated martinis and retooling all the drinks so they're made with fresh juices instead of pre-made mixers.

Spokeswoman Megan Longo said the drinks, including fishbowls, are now made with fresh lemon and lime juice, cane sugar and simple syrup.

The Signature Cocktails section of the menu now includes drinks such as the Corzo Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita, which includes Corzo Silver, Cointreau, fresh lime, simple syrup, muddled jalapeño and cucumber; and the Hawkeye, which includes a drop of bitters made with sriracha. The Saketini will soon be made with American Harvest Organic vodka.

All three of the Flagship Restaurant Group's restaurants — Blue, Roja and Blatt Beer & Table — have extended Monday through Saturday happy hours to run from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Longo said this was because of customer demand, especially at Blue.

The reverse happy hour and the all-day Sunday happy hours will remain the same.

Lenny's at Midtown

Lenny's Sub Shop, the latest restaurant to join Midtown Crossing, is open.

The Memphis-based franchise is known for its Philly cheesesteak sandwiches.

The store is at 3201 Farnam St. Its hours are Monday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

'Offbeat' winemaker

Sunset Magazine recently named the Edelweiss wine from Nebraska's James Arthur Vineyards as one of its “Top 43 Wines to Buy Now.” The magazine honored James Arthur in its “Most Offbeat Winners” category and said of the wine: “This white grape was developed to withstand cold winters. Here, it's slightly spritzy and semisweet, with bright, Granny Smith apple flavors and a clean, balanced finish.”

The 2011 Edelweiss is $17. James Arthur is outside Lincoln, in Raymond, Neb., at 2001 West Raymond Road.
