Lenny’s Sub Shop is giving away free half-pound subs until Sunday, Feb. 20, in exchange for “likes” on Facebook.
“You just go to the Lenny’s Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/LennysSubs, and click ‘like,’” said Larry Koester, manager of Lenny’s in Kalamazoo. “It’ll send you a coupon, which you print off and bring in for a free regular sub.”
Lenny’s was founded in Tennessee in 1998 and offers Philly cheesesteaks and subs, as well as salads and sides, according to its website. While it has numerous locations across the country, Lenny’s is still a comparatively small franchise.
“We’re just trying to get our name out there,” Koester said. “We’re a smaller business than Subway or Jimmy John’s, so this is a way to help raise our profile.”
The campaign is part of a growing trend of using social media to connect with potential customers. In addition to the Facebook campaign, Lenny’s recently partnered with Groupon, an online deal-of-the-day website, to offer subs at a reduced rate. It also uses its Facebook page to publicize daily specials.
The tactics seem to be paying off. The Facebook page currently has over 30,000 fans, and there have been hundreds of comments showing fans’ appreciation.
“I think it’s awesome,” said Dustin Brondyke, a Western Michigan University senior who recently participated in the offer. “I’m always happy to get free food, being a college student and all.”
Brondyke said he felt that the Facebook aspect of the giveaway made it more enticing.
“When my friends did it, it popped up right there in my [Facebook] newsfeed,” Brondyke said. “I didn’t have to go looking for the page; it found me. It’s like really quick word of mouth.”
The offer ends Sunday, Feb. 20.
