Lenny's Sub Shop chain eyes KC for expansion

A Memphis-based sandwich chain plans to stack the Kansas City area with 20 locations in the next five years.

The Philly-style sub sandwich chain, mostly franchised, hopes to open its first area shop this year, according to a Friday release.

The 10-year-old chain has more than tripled its national presence since 2004. Dozens of new Lenny's locations are planned to open in 2008, and more than 100 are in development nationwide.

"We're finding people are passionate about our food, our convenience and especially the quality we provide," CEO George Alvord said in the release.

The chain is looking for single-unit and multiunit franchisees. The franchise fee is $15,000 to $25,000, and the investment to own and operate a shop usually ranges from $180,000 to $328,000.
