Lenny's News and Interviews
The Mississippi Press - Market Street is home to new sub shopMarch 03, 2008
PASCAGOULA—“Unbelievable” is the one-word description used to describe the business at Market Street’s newest eatery.
Lenny’s Sub Shop opened its doors to local diners on Tuesday, February 26 and has served large crowds each day. This restaurant is one of 160 Lenny’s open nationwide to date and several hundred additional units are expected to open in the next three years.
Owned and operated by brothers Chad and Steve Brady, Lenny’s is open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. offering cold subs, hot sandwiches, and salads.
“We opened Tuesday and luckily I haven’t had time to do anything other than make subs!” Steve said. “Turnout has been unbelievable.”
Lenny's started in New Jersey on the boardwalk in 1979. Len Moore "Lenny" reopened the concept September 16, 1998 in Bartlett, Tennessee. Opening the Bartlett unit was a joint venture between Steve and Len and in 2000 they started the franchise company.
“Chad came on with the company in early 1999 and the three of us, Chad, Len, and Steve, were partners in Lenny's #4,” Steve said. “All three of us spent the next four years developing the Lenny's brand primarily in the Southeast, handling franchise sales, site selections, construction and development along with our franchisee training.”
And in expanding the franchise the brothers chose to open and operate the Pascagoula restaurant because this is their home. They were reared in the local area. Steve graduated from Our Lady of Victories Catholic School in 1988 and Chad in 1991, after the school was renamed Resurrection Catholic High School.
“All of our family still lives and works here, and we all knew Lenny’s would be a great fit for the area,” Steve said. “Future plans are to continue with the expansion of the Lenny’s brand in the immediate area, primarily Gulfport through Pensacola.”
Along with providing a wide array of items, Lenny’s is best known for its Philly Cheesesteak and the Italian Sub.
“Those are our signature subs,” Steve said. “All of our subs are sliced fresh and made to order.”
The restaurant also offers a unique level of service for the fast food industry in that the staff strives to make all of its guests feel like family.
“Our mission statement is ‘More Food, More Taste, More Personality’,” Steve said. “Excellent caring service every time.”
Lenny's will employee approximately 20 people at the Pascagoula location. They have received a large response for employment from high school aged workers to fill the evening and night hours, but hope to find people interested in working during the daytime as well.
The restaurant is also available for birthday parties, sporting events or office parties. The owners have 20 years experience in catering light luncheons to large dinner parties. The catering menu offers box lunches and party platters.
Lenny’s is operating in the former Payless Shoe Source building on Market Street directly behind CVS Pharmacy.
