Lenny's News and Interviews
Commercial Appeal - Sandwiching into all of lifeAugust 28, 2006
Lenny's Franchisor, LLC
First job: Making sub sandwiches in the 1980s at a restaurant in Germantown
Most recent job: Planning and Strategy for LNR Properties, a multi-billion dollar commercial real estate and investment corporation based in Miami Beach, Fla.
Most satisfying career moment: The moments where I've really been tested and earned the respect of executives, savvy business people or anyone for whom I have a tremendous admiration. Most of those moments occurred when I was well prepared and knew my subject matter inside and out.
Career advice: Live life with integrity, live up to your potential, learn from other's mistakes, strive for excellence -- attention to detail matters, do first class work, anticipate questions and have the answers ready, be humble and willing to learn, give credit where credit is due, have the courage to change the things you can, be balanced -- God and family must come first, and don't forget to have fun!
Person I most admire: My wife, Yendry. She left a country she loved, as well as her friends and family in Costa Rica to be with me. She's a supportive, beautiful, spunky, fashion genius who can design and create her own outfits, while simultaneously being an awesome mom for our two young sons.
Hobbies: Spending as much time as I can with my family is my favorite hobby. I also enjoy boating and riding ATV's at Pickwick, watching movies, reading books, playing guitar, playing video games, jogging and working out, traveling/exploring, scuba diving, surfing (mainly in Costa Rica, as I haven't seen any big waves on the Mississippi), and trying to move my golf game out of the embarrassing category.
Last book read: "The Next Level: What Insiders Know About Executive Success" by Scott Eblin
Favorite film: "Princess Bride," a classic, good-natured comedy and romance with some memorable moments.
Favorite vacation spot: Tabacon Resort, Costa Rica. Imagine beautiful tropical plants with hot water springs flowing over a waterfall onto your shoulders while you sip a drink from the in-pool bar and look over your shoulder at a mildly active volcano that puffs out smoke and has glowing red lava flow trickling down the mountain.
Change I would like to see: I would like to see less crime and more unity in Memphis -- we are all God's children and we need to have more Memphis pride and less polarization. On a global scale, I would like to see more people feel empowered that they can make a difference in their lives, the lives of others, and in the community. If people don't have a personal mission, they can adopt mine: "To have the greatest positive impact on the world that God allows me to have in my lifetime."
